I had the privilege of directing the captivating award-winning one-act play by Julia Dritzer. This poignant work unravels the compelling journey of two college-aged sisters as they grapple with the challenges of living together during the pandemic. Through their struggles with mediocrity, the play delves into profound themes of self-acceptance, non-binary gender structures, and the harmonious joy that underpins our reason to be. With a powerful narrative, this production offers audiences a thought-provoking exploration of identity, resilience, and the meaningful connections that shape our lives.

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

TORCH SONG TRILOGY

SCAPIN

KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN

This excerpt is derived from an immersive lip sync production that I both produced and directed at Westmont High School. The project was conceived with the intention of enticing non-theatre students to explore the dynamic offerings of the theatre department. To achieve this, we curated a vibrant lip-sync concert infused with contemporary songs and captivating drag performances. Our overarching goal was to create an inviting and interactive experience, encouraging audiences to not only witness but actively engage in a diverse array of performances. Through this innovative approach, we aimed to bridge the gap between different student communities and foster a shared sense of enjoyment, self-expression, and participation within the realm of theatre. Due to its success, the event is still produced yearly at Westmont High School, now 6 years later.

In 2021, we were honored to present an award-winning short play penned by the talented Lexi Leitner. This compelling work delves into the poignant challenges of forging intimacy amidst the backdrop of a pandemic. The narrative unfolds around a couple separated by physical distance, spanning from Israel to New York. Through the lens of this touching story, we examine the profound complexities and emotional nuances that arose during these unprecedented times, offering audiences a resonant exploration of the human experience.

REASON TO BE

Highlighted here is a segment from my involvement in the production of Torch Song Trilogy, where I took on the roles of both director and performer. This piece delves into the intricacies of queer culture, portraying the journey of two men as they navigate the complexities of their sexuality. Through our innovative and minimalist staging approach, we not only brought this compelling narrative to life but also had the opportunity to showcase it across various school functions and theaters in California. Our touring production not only promoted the arts but also sparked awareness and conversations around important themes within the LGBTQ+ community.

I conceived and directed a unique one-act adaptation of Scapin, incorporating a creative approach by utilizing repurposed materials such as extension cables, broken umbrellas, pool noodles, and potato sacks. Through this imaginative use of recycled items, we skillfully transported the audience into a whimsical realm of escapism and play, offering them a distinctive and engaging theatrical experience.

I orchestrated an immersive production of "Kiss of the Spiderwoman," skillfully integrating theatrical and media techniques to transmute our intimate black box studio space into the evocative setting of 1975 Buenos Aires. Through a harmonious fusion of live performance and multimedia elements, we transported the audience into the heart of the story, creating a captivating and immersive theatrical journey.

ROCKSTAR

Rye-Bread

I was honored to be selected as the recipient of the Hillel Bicep grant for Ithaca College, where I strategically allocated a portion of our budget to orchestrate a 24-hour reading of "Rye Bread." Securing a $1,500 grant and in collaboration with Theatre Authority, we organized a 29-hour reading of Audrey Lange’s "Rye Bread" to support fundraising efforts for the Anti-Defamation League. This endeavor involved hiring Equity actors representative of the Jewish narrative, engaging a Carnegie Mellon dramaturg, and enlisting a New York-based director to ensure a high-quality production. An essential aspect of the project was fostering an educational environment, inviting students to observe the rehearsal process. Notably, this production garnered substantial success by raising $3,000 for the Anti-Defamation League and drawing an audience of 500 attendees. Additionally, a thought-provoking talkback session was held, featuring the creative team and facilitated by me, in conversation with Ithaca's Jewish Community leaders. The comprehensive press kit I created can be accessed on Broadway World, underscoring the far-reaching impact of our initiative.

Theater director, The APJCC’s Theatre Program, Los Gatos, California.

May - August 2021/2022/2023.

I directed six children's musicals, engaging with a diverse group of 300 young actors spanning from 2nd to 8th grade. Through this experience, I showcased strong leadership and organizational prowess by skillfully overseeing technical and artistic staff, which included responsibilities such as casting, rehearsals, and performance coordination. Furthermore, I took great care in curating and sustaining a secure and nurturing creative atmosphere, nurturing a positive environment that facilitated growth and learning for these budding performers.
